FRANTISEK DRTIKOL (1883–1961) Žena ve Světle (Woman in Light) Starting price: 12 000 CZK (453 EUR) Hammer price: 33 000 CZK (1 245 EUR) Description dimensions: 24 x 17 cm (h x w) period: 1938, Bohemia, Prague František Drtikol was the first Czech photographer to work with the nude as an artistic concept, constantly discovering new and daring ways of depicting the female and male body. But he was not interested in merely depicting real nudity. Instead, he understood the body as a motif - a motif for the photographic image that possesses his logical sense and structure. Drtikol combines the nude with other objects, with light and shadow, to create compositions. The auctioned book is his first ever monograph. It contains 46 nudes and an introductory text by J. R. Marek, the culture critic for Národní Listy. Published by Baufort a.s.
