FRASCAROLO AND C., A PAIR OF 1970S DIAMOND, RUBY AND ENAMEL TIGER CUFFLINKS The striped enamel roaring tiger masks with brilliant cut diamond set muzzle and ruff, approximately 0.92 carats total, with circular cut ruby eyes, inside the heads stamped with oval panels with Modele Deposse 750 and the initials FC Made in Italy, with Italian control marks 347 AL, with reeded baton swivel terminals Size/dimensions: heads 1.9cm wide Gross weight: 21.3 grams Pierino 'Rino' Frascarolo (1928-1976), came from a wealthy Milanese family and set up Franscarolo & Cie with two colleagues, Aldo Lenti (1910-1982) and Daniele Valiera (1912-1978). In the 1960s the company became well known for fanciful enamelled animal jewellery, and from 1966 his 'Bestiario' collection gained world acclaim, particularly in North America, when the company opened in New York in 1970, under the name Franscarolo & Co. Inc. Franscarolo subsequently became known in many circles as the 'David Webb of Italy'. Condition Report: The enamel has some chips, one chip to the nose. The heads have two differing plaques, one has two panels the other has one, and so one of the heads may be a matching replacement, the castings of the heads are very slightly different, but they are of the same maker.
