French, London; A Victorian ormolu-mounted ebonised quarter chiming mantel clock , the elaborate case on large foliate scroll feet and with similar mounts applied to the plinth moulding and shaped top, rope-twist decoration to the angles with bezelled glazed sides, the back door with foliate pierced wood sound-fret, the top with hinged handle designed of two confronting dragons' heads, fine foliate engraved gilt mask to the similarly engraved dial signed French Royal Exchange London within a reserve beneath the Roman chapter ring with fine blued steel fleurs de lys hands and with gilt alarm hand, subsidiary dials above for chime & strike/silent and bells loud/bells soft, calendar indication below for day of week and date, the unusual and compact triple chain fusee movement chiming on eight bells with hour strike on gong, overcoiled blued spring to cut bi-metallic balance of the lever platform, the plain backplate with repeat signature and subsidiary alarm assembly beneath striking on bell, securing brackets to case 13in. (33cm.) high
