It's been 50 years since Jaguar introduced the E-Type, and it is hard today to fathom the commotion it caused. Fifty years on, most major concours and vintage races are honoring this Jaguar in one form or another this year. The offered lot will allow you to join that celebration, with a link to the introduction at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. This 1965 E-Type Fixed Head Coupe was manufactured in October, 1965. It has been restored to the configuration of the car that was on the stand at the Geneva Motor Show launch – opalescent silver gray exterior, dark red interior and European running lights. Records with the car indicate that the first owner picked it up at the factory and took an extended tour of Europe. The first service was performed in Cannes and the second in Genoa. From that time it appears that the car spent its life in the Seattle, Washington area until purchased at an estate sale in February 2010. Service records indicate a complete engine and gearbox rebuild in 1984 with the odometer showing 96,000 miles. The vendor has undertaken a complete restoration. All major metal parts were stripped and etched down to bare metal. No sheet metal replacement was required on the tub, doors, bonnet or rear hatch. The engine was completely rebuilt including all new bearings on the turned crankshaft. All moving parts were replaced and the rear rope-type sear was replaced with a modern seal. The internal surfaces of the block were painted in Glyptal and the exhaust headers were re-porcelained. A high-speed fan with variable speed control was installed. Other systems completely rebuilt include the gearbox, brake system, wiring and the steering and suspension. Over $8000 was spent just on rechroming. The only body repair necessary was to the lower right quarter panel where it appeared the factory had damaged the car and leaded it in. This is an E-Type for the ages and the restoration has been completed in time for a new buyer to enjoy the car in a year when the automotive world's attention is focused on the model.
