Autograph document twice signed by Robert Elliot ("Robt Elliot"), George Gibson ("Geo: Gibson"), and dated 1771 from Pittsburgh, Middlesex, and Carlisle, Pennsylvania; browned and spotted, fold separation with two small marginal chips. Printed broadside (12 3/4 x 8 1/8 in.; 322 x 203 mm). Titled "Prices of Returns from North America," text printed in two columns, dated in print and sepia ink "London, 10 August 1793,,with various annotations in ink, docketed on verso; lightly browned, lightly creased, some very short marginal fold separations.The consignor has independently obtained a letter of authenticity from PSA that will accompany the lot. The first document details the receipt of 3,571 pounds of skins, and the transportation of 1,892 pounds of those skins. Robert Elliot and George Gibson both of whom signed this document, were mortally wounded in battle—the former was a Revolutionary War officer, who perished in the Northwest Indian War, and the latter was ambushed by American Indians just outside of Fort Hamilton. The accompanying broadside was printed at the close of the French and Indian War, with the left-hand column displaying (in a neat contemporary hand) the prices for "Skins," including: beaver, otter, red fox, black bear, wolf, mink, etc. Below this falls "Divers Merchandize," which includes whale oil, cod oil, whalefins, pitch, turpentine, etc. The right column lists printed "Duties paid on Importation."Condition ReportCondition as described in catalogue entry.
