Author: Place: Philadelphia Publisher: Date: 1859 Description: [1], 2-48 pp. Illustrated wrappers, printed in red and black; stitched. printed in double column format. Publisher/bookseller's trade catalogue presenting the entire catalogue of standard works available from the book store of G.G. Evans of Philadelphia and touting their innovative "Gift-Book System." Beginning in 1854, G.G. Evans ran a retail shop pioneeing the sale of remaindered books with a lottery free "gift" with purchase, said to range in cost from 25 cents to $100. He described the system as "[t]he most liberal mode of disposing of a large stock of books ever known." Booksellers, take note. Two engravings by J. Spittall on the catalogue's red-and-black printed wrappers depict Evans' headquarter building and an expansive interior view of the book store. Lot Amendments Condition: Wrappers dust-soiled, tanned; some internal spotting; mild paper loss to rear wrap; inside front wrap corner has a previous owner's small clear tape mend.
