GAUTIER D'AGOTY, Jacques (1717-1786) and Joseph Guichard DUVERNEY. Paris: Gautier [vol. I]; Gautier, Quillau pre et fils, and Lamesle [vol. II], 1745-46-[48]. Together 2 volumes, broadsheets (520 x 370 mm). Title to the second volume printed in red and black, with dedication and advertisement leaves as described in Wellcome [variant issue], 18 (of 20) life-size color mezzotints. (Lacking plates 17 and 20, plate 9 with tear repaired on verso, some plates lightly browned, some minor marginal dampstaining.) Later half calf. FIRST EDITION. The plates were engraved and printed in four colors in a process invented by Leblon and elaborated by Gautier, who had a 30-year privilege to use the process in France. The plates are life-size and could be mounted for demonstration purposes. The collective title-page of the Myologie appears in the second volume, dated 1746, though the title to the Essai is dated 1745 and the colophon to the Suite is dated 1748. The work was issued first in two parts, the Essai and the Suite and then collectively under the title Myologie . This work, as with the author's Anatomie de la tête and Anatomie générale des viscères , forms part of the series Cours complet d'anatomie . Choulant-Frank, pp. 270-74; NLM/Blake, p.169; Wellcome II, p. 97. (2)
