Signed and dated « Guyot-1909» and situated céramique Rambervillers. H: 26 in L: 15 3/4 in D: 31 1/2 in Georges Guyot est né en 1885 à Paris et devint par passion un célèbre artiste animalier. Attentif au comportement des animaux toute sa vie durant il illustra ses études aussi bien en peinture, en gravure et en sculpture. C'est au Jardin des plantes qu'il adorait observer les fauves pour en tirer le meilleur de leur expression, semblable à cette sculpture en grès que nous vous présentons où le félin gueule ouverte est très naturel. En vogue tout au long de sa carrière l'oeuvre de Guyot fût présentée dans une rétrospective en 1943 lors du Salon des Indépendants, et reçut un bel hommages à l'aube de ses 85 ans avec une exposition consacrée à ses oeuvres. Georges Guyot who was born in 1885 in Paris, had a passion for animals and his great interest in studying their behaviour brought him to become a famous animal artist, portraying them in painting, engraving as well as in sculpture. He loved observing wild animals in the Jardin des Plants and finding ways of catching their expressions, as can be seen in the very natural open jaws of this stoneware sculpture. His work met with success throughout his entire career and a retrospective was given in the Salon des Independents in 1943 and at nearly 85 years old, he had the honour of an exhibition entirely dedicated to his work.
