GILLES PERESS Telex Persan -- Telex Iran . Paris: Contrejour, 1984. Folio (376 x 266mm). 100 black and white photographs. Original black cloth with the upper cover lettered in white, and original photo-illustrated wrappers bound in. With a gelatine silver print (image 215 x 328mm on a sheet 280 x 355mm), signed 'Gilles Peress' and numbered '41/70', in the original green paper sleeve, laid together with the book in the original black cloth clamshell box. FIRST EDITION. THE RARE HARDCOVER ISSUE, WITH AN ORIGINAL SIGNED PRINT; number 41 of 70 copies only. It is a key work of photojournalism, and a beautifully designed book which Cornall Capa described as 'a book of brilliant visual nervousness between covers' (quoted in 101 Books ). The hardcover was issued with one of two prints, in an edition of 35 copies each; this one with 'Mullahs, Azerbaijan'.
