Provenance
Commissioned by Joseph Smith, later British Consul in Venice (c.1682-1770), Venice, as one of a series of overdoors for his residence in Venice, Palazzo Balbi, and included in his list of 'Door Pieces' as '11. The church of the Redentore by ditto [i.e., Palladio]’ in his manuscript inventory of the pictures sold with his collection in 1762 to King George III, by whom disposed of, possibly through Richard Dalton
An English family since the 19th century and by descent until,
