Lot of 4. Gold leaf on quartz matrix, 8.4 grams total weight of sample. Eldorado Co., California. In Riker specimen mount. Plus book, imprint, and photograph (Alaska gold rush). One sheet, printed front and back, Senate Miscellaneous papers, No. 11, 32d Congress, 1st Session, Jan. 6, 1852. "Statement of Gold Bullion Received at the port of New York from California, from January 6th to December 1, 1851." Accounting indicates a total of nearly $40 million. Grabhorn, Jane Bissell. A California Gold Rush Miscellany. Comprisiing: The Original Journal of Alexander Barrington, Nine Unpublished Letters from the Gold Mines, Reproductions of Early maps and Towns from California Lithographs, &c., &c. San Francisco: Grabhorn Press, 1934. 4to, maroon paper, cloth spine with paper label, gilt lettering and highlights. Limitation page indicates 550 copies printed. Loose sheet in front is a message to subscribers that this volume was "(a sudden inspiration and not included in the original plan at all)." (corners bumped and a bit worn, otherwise very good.) Photograph, with faint stamp of Keystone View Co. on verso. 7 x 9 in. showing miners in tent city with snow on the ground. A large tent on the right edge has a sign in front "Golden Gate Restaurant." - one gold rush to another! or maybe wishful thinking! Mid-ground has a dog sled team. Manuscript on verso: "Alaska / Main St. - Sheep Camp / Klondyke Days." (moderate browning visible on verso, scattered insect holes)
