GOSPEL LECTIONARY, in Low German, MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM [Germany, Lower Rhineland, first half of the 14th century] 210 x 147mm, 160 leaves, complete. Collation: 1-20 8 , with quire signatures throughout. Double column, 24 lines, ruled in red, justification: 131 x 92mm, written in brown ink by two scribes in a monastic gothic rounded hand, rubrics in red. Contemporary binding of red stained sheep over wooden boards, sewn on 5 raised bands, with flat back, two leather thongs, one with brass catch (the other missing) to fit over pins on upper cover, early label on upper cover. Provenance : Rumellus (15th-century inscription at head of f.1) The text gives Gospel readings for every Sunday and Feastday throughout the year, beginning with Ditz sind di vil heiligen ewangeli daz ewangelium an den weinacht abent schri . matheus and ending with Des lesten suntages daz ewangelium daz schreibt sande Johannes
