The last, and one of the most lavish, of Gould's full-scale works, the subjects including birds of paradise, kingfishers, parrots, honey-eaters, pitas, birds of prey, and other species. The last 12 parts were seen through to completion by the ornithologist Richard Bowdler Sharpe after Gould's death in 1881.
