William Simpson recorded the battles of the Crimean War and made his watercolour drawings on the battlefield. 80 of these drawings were lithographed and published in The Seat of War in the East (1855-1856), which he dedicated to Queen Victoria. Some dam. to margins, occ. affecting the plates, some plates with sl. waterstaining in margin, 1 plate in passepartout with restored tear. (total 69)
