( 5/8 in.)), in a giltwood frame . Caroline thanks the Duchess for agreeing to the appointment of Lady Suffolk (King George's mistress) as "Maistresse de Robage." Queen Caroline's complacency at the position of Henrietta Howard, acknowledged mistress of her husband, was based on her confidence that her own intelligence and strength of character outweighed the attractions of her rival. -- GEORGE IV (1762-1830), King of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover . Autograph letter signed ("George R", with flourish) to James Maitland Earl of Lauderdale, Carlton House, London, n.d. 1 page, 4to, integral address leaf, seal in red wax (diameter 29 mm.
