GÖDEL PRESENTS HIS OFFPRINTS TO OSKAR MORGENSTERN. Economist Oskar Morgenstern, who is best known for his work with John von Neumann founding the mathematical field of game theory with their book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior, was, along with Albert Einstein, among Gödel's closest friends at the Institute for Advance Studies, Princeton. Morgenstern held Gödel in high esteem. He wrote in a 1974 journal entry: "Gödel alone remains - perhaps the most wondrous man one can imagine. Hardly anyone knows him. If I were nearer his level (and what a distance that would be to cover!) I would write his life. Perhaps even so I should record some of his thoughts and doings, since the world will know little what kind of man he is. A man of whom von Neumann & Weyl have said to me more than once: the greatest logician since Leibniz or Aristotle." Signed and inscribed presentation copies of Gödel's offprints are extremely rare on the market, much less to fellow Institute of Advanced Study colleagues.
