The figures of this group can be found in lithographs by Scheurich depicting 'Der Rosenkavalier' published in 1920 (fig. 1); see following lot. Scheurich delivered the model for this group to the Meissen manufactory in August 1919, and it was purchased at the end of the month for RM 2,500. In early 1920, Scheurich designed three different colour schemes for the group, all of which were produced (the design with a predominantly coral-red colouring was the most frequently used). The group, which was only sold in the coloured version, proved to be very popular and 227 examples had been sold.
