Gruber (J.G. & Geissler, Charles G.H.). Costumes, Moeurs et Coutumes des Russes, Leipzig, Comptoir d' Industrie, [1801-04], two titles to first part in French and German, and descriptive text to each plate in French and German, 39 (of 40) hand-coloured copper engraved plates of street vendors, costumes, horses and waggons, etc., numbered 1-39, lacking the final plate at end, but with descriptive leaf giving the plate number LX, some soiling and marks to first title, and some plates with some soiling and handling marks and occasional discolouration to margins, 19th century half calf, some wear with upper joint cracked, small 4to (Qty: 1) Colas 1207; not in Lipperheide. Based on drawings by Geissler made during his travels in St. Petersburg and Southern Russia between 1790 and 1798, the plates depict street sellers of cheese and fruit, toys, vegetables, fish, hot soup, glasses, geese, rabbits, and prints, etc.
