Aberli, 2 folding engraved maps, 18 folding engraved views by A. Zingg after S. H. Grim, D. Dürringer and others. Contemporary boards, uncut; cloth slipcase and chemise. Provenance : A. Pagen (signature date 1761); Heilmann (early signature). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of the first concerted effort to describe the mountains of Switzerland. This work comprises three parts: the first two include a detailed description of the Swiss Alps based on earlier authorities, and contemporary information received by Gruner from his numerous correspondants. The final part is more specifically about glaciers and their various properties. Haller I, 1483; Lonchamp 1321; Poggendorf I,965.
