CONTEMPORARY ANACREONTIC BINDING BY CHARLES MEUNIER: dark-blue crushed levant morocco gilt, upper cover with gilt and polychrome inlays of morocco, surmounted by two shooting-stars, the design of foliage intertwined around a long stem, topped with a torch, a faun's term, a putto at its base, a be-stockinged shoed leg held aloft by a pair of hands, emerging from behind an open fan, the lower cover with a large centrally-placed single spray of flowers inlaid in brown, green and cream, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in one, another with a tool of a pair of birds, the others with a small tool of a rose spray, the main flowerhead inlaid in red, broad gilt turn-ins, floral silk liners and endleaves, original wrappers bound-in, g.e., modern cloth box. A large-paper copy, limited to one or two copies. One of the principal works of Charles Léandre (1862-1930), with multiple states of the illustrations, in a typically exuberant binding from the Belle Époque .
