HENRI C. PIECK (1895-1972) JAARBEURS UTRECHT. Circa 1935. 391/4x29 inches. Condition A-: unobtrusive horizontal folds. Both an artist and an architect, Pieck was often called upon to design the posters for the yearly industrial fair held in Utrecht. His bold, profoundly Art Deco images, celebrating the Machine Age, modernism, architecture and commerce must have been immensely appealing to the Fair's promoters. Here, utilizing his architect's vision, which he employed in other posters for the fair as well, he plays with industrial architecture, turning the typography into an important element in his constructivist building. A tour-de-force, representing Pieck at his best. Modernist Posters auction #1897 lot 56, and #1935 lot 56.
