[Homer / Όμηρος] "Της του Ομήρου ΟΔΥΣΣΕΙΑΣ", "Της του Ομήρου ΙΛΙΑΔΟΣ", Glasguae, In Aedibus Academicis... Robertus et Andreas Foulis, 1756 1758. COMPLETE. All 4 volumes (2 volumes of Odyssey & 2 volumes of Iliad) bound in two. Small folio. pp.xi,312, 336 + [4], 297, 336. Text in Greek. Contemporary binding, spines in calf with raised bands decorated in gilt. Spines, joints & extremities worn, interior in extremely fine condition. The current edition is considered as "One of the most splendid specimen of Greek typography existant" (Lowder). The fonts were specifically designed by the University typefounder for this edition and it makes the first deliberate break from the tradition of copying Garamonds "grec du roi" which had been strangling Greek type design for over 200 years (Gaskell, The Book Collector 1952, p. 106). Its accuracy is also praised by all experts as each sheet was read several times and corrected before the final printing. Ex Libris labels "G.C.J Vosmaer" from the library of the academic and authos Gualtherus Carel Jacob Vosmaer A masterpiece edition of Homers epic poems. Rarely offered complete. Lowder, 1097. Gaskell, 319. Dibdin, II, 58. Hoffman, II, 319.
