HONGZHAN (PRINCE GUO, 17TH-18TH CENTURY) LANDSCAPES AND CALLIGRAPHY Album of fifty leaves, comprising twenty-five leaves of paintings, and twenty-five leaves of calligraphy, ink or ink and colour on paper Each leaf measures 12 x 17 cm. (4 3/4 x 6 2/3 in.) Last leaf inscribed and signed: Jingyu Zhuren, and dated twelfth month, gengchen year of the Qianlong era (1760) Each leaf with one to three seals of the artist, including: Guo Qing Wang Shu (double-seal, 7 times), Yun Gu (6 times), Jing Yu Zhu Ren (7 times), Yu Wei Ren (twice), Guo Wang (double-seal, 14 times), Guo Qing Wang; Shu Zhai (twice), Shu Zhai (4 times), Bu Tong Tong Zhi, Gan Zhu (twice), Yu Li (4 times), Guo Qing Wang Shu (3 times), Yue Bo (twice), Yu Shi Zuo Shi Ren, Yi Yong Yi Yin Dedicated to Shen Guiyu (Shen Deqian, 1673-1769) Note: 1. Hongzhan was the seventh son of emperor Yongzheng and a brother of emperor Qianlong. When Prince Guo (Yunli, son of Kangxi and uncle to Hongzhan) died in the third year of the Qianlong era (1738) without heir, Hongzhan was appointed to assume the title of Prince Guo. For brief biography, see Zhongguo Lidai Renming Dacidian , Shanghai Guji Chubanshe, 1999, p.489. 2. Shen Deqian was the teacher of Hongzhan. This album was executed by Hongzhan as a gift in honour of his retired teacher. For brief biography of Shen Deqian, see Zhongguo Renming Dacidian , Shanghai Guji Chubanshe, 1999, p.1169. 3.
