Horology.- Clutton (Cecil) & George Daniels. Clocks and Watches: The collection of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, illustrations, original cloth, dust-jacket, 1975 § Ilbert (Courtenay A.) [Sale Catalogue] The Celebrated Collection of English and Continental Clocks, First Portion [all issued], plates, original boards, slightly browned and spotted, Christie's, 1958; and 19 others on collections of clocks etc., mostly pamphlets, 4to & 8vo (c.20) ⁂ Courtenay A. Ilbert (1888-1956) was one of the major horological collectors and authorities of the 20th century. His vast library was bequeathed to the British Horological Institute and a Tompion longcase clock to the National Maritime Museum but the rest of his collection was sent for auction. A public subscription was organized by the Clockmakers' Company and the collection was saved for the nation.
