A WONDERFUL HUGH HEFNER CARTOON FROM THE FIRST ISSUE OF PLAYBOY . Hugh Hefner aspired to be a cartoonist from a very early age and humor was central to the Playboy ethos. Through his championing of Jack Cole, Harvey Kurtzman Will Elder Eldon Dedini, Gahan Wilson and the score of other artists who contributed to the look and feel of Playboy 's lighter-side, Hugh Hefner made his magazine one of the prime vehicles for the best cartoonists of the age.
