Beschreibung:

Measures 13" x 17.5" (image area 10" x 13.5"). Image area in excellent condition; overall sheet very good (edges toned, bottom right corner chipped). Unprinted verso. A rare uncut and unfolded color cover proof to Humbug #3, showing both the Will Elder front cover and the Elder/Jack Davis back cover, printed on an untrimmed sheet with excess paper surrounding the image. This proof was Kurtzman's final opportunity to inspect the cover before the comic was printed. According to Kurtzman's biographer Denis Kitchen, who documented the Kurtzman estate, as few as one and as many as three cover proofs were produced for each issue of Humbug . None have been offered for sale before now. Humbug was the first artist-owned comics co-op; Kurtzman and his partners Jack Davis Will Elder Arnold Roth, Al Jaffee and Harry Chester pooled money, time and talent to create their dream project after Kurtzman's ambitious Trump magazine folded. The magazine lasted 11 issues, and remains a bright anomaly in the annals of comic magazine publishing. Provenance: From the Harvey Kurtzman Estate Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought. Contact [email protected] for details. PBA COMICS March 26th Comic Book Sale catalogues available. Supplies Limited. Softcover catalogues limited to 200 copies ($45 + $5 postage/handling). Hardcovers limited to 26 lettered copies, dust jackets, special limitation plates ($150). Contact [email protected]
