[Italy, c. 1450.] 168 leaves, final three blank. 8vo (190 x 140 mm). 21 lines per page in a clear gothic hand, black ink, headings in red, with a large 6-line historiated initial “T” of the Saint holding a stone to a wound in his breast on folio 1r in blue magenta green and liquid gold with floriated surrounds, numerous 2- and 4-line initials in red and blue with marginal flourishes throughout. Modern vellum, a.e.g. Some marginal paint loss to text, old book dealer description glued to front pastedown, top of front hinge cracked, else a very clean, attractive example. The three epistles of Jerome to Eusebius, Augustine, and Cyril were all found to be medieval forgeries. See illustration.
