Immigration.- Turgot (Anne-Robert-Jacques-.- Tucker (Josiah) Questions Importantes sur le Commerce, a l'occasion des oppositions au dernier Bill de Naturalisation, translated by Turgot, first edition in French, half-title, a few ink corrections to text in neat contemporary hand, marbled wrappers (previously extracted from a bound volume of pamphlets), preserved in modern cloth drop-back box, [Goldsmiths' 9023], 12mo, "Londres" [?Paris], Fletcher Gyles, 1755. ⁂ Turgot's important translation of the second part of Tucker's Reflections on the Expediency of a Law for the Naturalization of Foreign Protestants of 1751. The question of naturalisation of foreigners in Britain had caused serious debate for several decades, with the general populace being fervently against immigration while the government was for it. Tucker supported the official line with Turgot wishing to reform the French thinkers. ESTC lists only 4 UK copies (BL, 2 copies at Trinity College Cambridge, and LSE).
