In the Manner of J.O.J. Frost (American, 1852-1928) Portrait of the Whaling Ship C.W. Morgan. Unsigned, inscribed "C.W. Morgan New Bedford 1897" l.r., vessel identified on stern. Oil on panel, the word "memories" inscribed in u.r. clouds, 9 3/4 x 18 1/2 in., panel mounted on a panel, in a mitered grey painted wooden frame. Condition: Minor stains. Note: The Charles W. Morgan was a wooden whaleship, built in 1841 at the yard of Jethro and Zachariah Hillman in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Her whaling days ended in 1921, then preserved by Whaling Enshrined, Inc. and exhibited at Colonel Edward H.R. Green's estate at Round Hill in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts until 1941, when she came to reside at Chubb's Wharf in Mystic Seaport where she is now a floating exhibit.
