(9 x 7 in), both under glass in matching gilt frames decorated with bamboo, [19th century] Provenance: According to ink inscription on reverse of both frames: 'Commissioned by Wm. E. Gibb from a Trichinopoly artist in March 1839. Gibb served with the 14th Madras Nature Infantry from 1824 to 1853'. Exhibited: According to ink inscription on reverse of both frames: 'Exhibited at Hartnoll and Eyre Ltd., [London], 1972, Indian Painting for the British 1770-1880'.
