INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL, 1857-1858, single clasp, Delhi (Alfd. Savage, 75th Regt.); officially impressed. Dark cabinet tone, pleasing extremely fine with some lustre. ex Dalrymple White Collection, Glendinings 1946 Alfred Savage was born c.1830 in St Margaret’s, Ipswich, Suffolk, and enlisted for service with the 75th Foot at Rochester, Kent 17 January 1852, having previously worked as a Shoemaker. He served 9 years and 226 days before being discharged as unfit for further service. He served in No 2. Coy during the siege of Delhi and received 1 share of the prize money which amounted to 86 Rupees. He was promoted to Corporal 1 April 1852, but after being absent without leave two years later he was in confinement for two weeks and subsequently demoted back to Private. He was promoted again in 1858 but was once again imprisoned and demoted, and ultimately discharged 10 December 1861. He was reported to have died in August 1864. Sold with copy of discharge papers.
