Jacqueline Kennedy A collection of correspondence to Margot Fonteyn including: an autograph letter, signed, on The White House headed stationery, June 5th, 1963, thanking Margot Fonteyn for her letter from Detroit, expressing delight that Fonteyn will be able to return next winter and dismay about the difficulties of setting a date due to the President's ever-changing schedule ..at the last minute you learn that 10 state visitors are coming and we are off to Brazil again... hoping that Fonteyn likes surprizes ...for I cannot tell you yet if you will be dancing for the Vice President or for Hailie Selassie - but it will really be for us - which is most selfish to say - but forgiveable - as there are no two people in the world you could find who would appreciate it more... 4pp. and corresponding hand-written envelope - another autograph letter, signed, April 30th [probably 1964] on Jacqueline Kennedy's mourning stationery embossed with her crest, thanking Fonteyn for a plant and for a wonderful time the previous evening, asking Fonteyn to pass on a message to Nureyev ...please tell Rudi - I can't call him Mr. Nureyev after stepping on his feet for an hour - that he is the sweetest most tolerant dancing partner and I just love him for being so nice and telling Fonteyn ...you really have the gift for life - and you made everyone there so happy... , 3pp. and corresponding hand-written envelope; - another autograph letter, signed, on 1040 Fifth Avenue headed paper, the letter addressed to Margo and Tito, thanking them both for letting them sit in Tito's box and for the joy they gave the previous evening to herself and three small children [John, Caroline and Elizabeth] telling them ...They will remember your Giselle as one of the most magic moments of all their lives.. how the children were too excited to sleep when they got home after the excitement of the performance and the intermission when ice cream had been laid on for them and Roberto had taken the children backstage, the 4pp. letter enclosing thank-you notes from the three children, each one-page letter written on Jackie's paper and addressed to Ambassador Arias, John Kennedy's [John Junior] letter thanking him for taking him to Giselle and telling him ...I really loved it.. , Caroline Kennedy stating ...the ballet was so beautiful and everyone was so nice to us. Going backstage was so much fun and Dame Margot looked so wonderful... ; all four letters in corresponding single envelope addressed to Margot and Tito; and another autograph letter, signed, 3pp. and corresponding envelope; another typescript letter, signed and annotated in Jacqueline Kennedy's hand, written following the death of Bobby Kennedy, June 24th, 1968, 1p. with corresponding envelope; various hand-written postcards; two printed postcards with a message of thanks for messages of sympathy, one sent following the death of J.F.Kennedy, with original envelope frankmarked December 20th, 1963, the other sent following the death of Aristotle Onassis, additionally inscribed with a brief message in Jackie's hand; a black and white photograph of Fonteyn meeting Jacqueline Kennedy after a performance of Gayanne -- 8x10in.
