Absente du catalogue raisonné de Daniel Ternois des dessins de Callot publié en 1962, ainsi que de son supplément de 1991, cette petite feuille semble pourtant caractéristique des quelques scènes de bataille que l'artiste dessine lors de son séjour à Florence, vers 1616-1617. Elle peut tout particulièrement être comparée à trois dessins de Bataille de cavalerie aux Offices (D. Ternois, Jacques Callot Catalogue complet de son œuvre dessiné, Paris, 1962, nos 42-44, ill.) où s'observent la même rapidité et virtuosité du trait de plume ainsi que la même qualité dans la représentation des chevaux. Les trois feuilles des Offices mesurent toutes, comme le dessin Delon, un peu plus de six centimètres en hauteur, même si deux d'entre elles sont plus grandes en largeur.
Not mentioned in Daniel Ternois's catalogue raisonné of Callot's drawings published in 1962, or in the supplement of 1991, this small sheet nevertheless seems characteristic of the few battle scenes that the artist drew during his stay in Florence, around 1616-1617. In particular, it can be compared to three drawings of cavalry battles in the Uffizi (D. Ternois, Jacques Callot Catalogue complet de son œuvre dessiné, Paris, 1962, nos. 42-44, ill.) in which one can see the same economy and virtuosity of the penmanship and the same ability in the depiction of the horses.
