Engraved double-hemisphere world map, fully hand-colored, image 503 x 621 mm (523 x 621 mm sheet). Elaborate decorative borders, eight large allegorical figures are shown each with symbols of governance and the arts, corners with vignettes representing the continents, title along upper margin and expanded in a central cartouche, verso blank. (Left and right margins trimmed closely just touching image on the right, 3 in. split to lower portion of central fold, repaired on verso.) FIRST EDITION of Jaillot's double hemisphere world map, prepared by Jaillot for his Atlas Royal which was published by de Fer in 1695 and again in 1699. Shirley 561.
