JAMES PRADIER (1790–1853) AFTER BATHING Starting price: 400 000 CZK (16 000 EUR) Hammer price: 1 700 000 CZK (68 000 EUR) Description dimensions: 160 cm (height) period: 1844 / Cara marble /Signed "Pradier" A unique life-sized Carrara marble statue by the important Swiss-born French sculptor James Pradier The creator of many major marble sculptures, terracotta maquettes, tombstones and allegorical sculptures (such as Napoleon's tomb at Les Invalides in Paris) is an important exponent of Louis Philippe I Neoclassicism. Part of his oeuvre is stored at the Louvre, while other works can be found in leading museums and collections around the world. This statue was originally in the collection of Count Palffy until 1924, after which it was in the collection of Rudolf Ryšavý. In the National Gallery in since 1975, restituted in 1998. Published in Claude Lapaire: James Pradier 1790–1852 et la sculpture française de la génération romantique, 2010.
