(James Pringle, attorney, author of "Cottage Rates, 1836", of Wickham Market, Suffolk, 1796-1884) [Commonplace Book], autograph manuscript, c. 800pp. excluding blanks, on blue lined paper, new endpapers, bound in modern green cloth, by Maltby's of Oxford, 4to, 1870s. *** Subjects include: Astronomy, Barclay, Education, English Liberty, Logarithms, Harriet Martineau, Peel, Slavery, Wellington, Wickham Level, Womans rights etc. With numerous quotes from various writers and newspapers, with notes and comments by Barclay. "Lord Palmerston treated Messrs. Bright and Cobden with equal indifference, and sometimes with a supercilious air verging upon contempt, that eventually cost him dear... . - Athenaeum. Twice in my lifetime I have been in the gallery of the House of Commons, once in the old House, once in the present.
