This painting will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the work of Jasper F. Cropsey, in preparation by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, Hastings on Hudson, New York. According to Kenneth Maddox, this painting is the only extant painting by Cropsey painted in Scotland during his month-long stay there. Later, in Rome, the artist developed a number of his Scottish sketches into paintings.
