Jewels.- Pouget (Jean Henri Prosper) Traité des Pierres Précieuses et de la maniere de les employer en Parure, first edition, engraved pictorial title by Courtois after J.B.Piauger, 79 plates engraved by Mlle. Raimbeau, woodcut illustrations, title lightly soiled, one or two spots to plates, a few leaves of text with marginal defects neatly repaired, later red morocco, gilt, by Rivière & Son, spines gilt in compartments with floral decoration, g.e., inner gilt dentelles, slight rubbing to upper joint, [Berlin Kat. 869; Cohen-de Ricci 819], 4to, Paris, the author and Taillard, 1762. ⁂ One of the most important 18th century works on precious stones and their use in jewellery, royal and military orders, sword handles etc.
