This is the second edition overall, with substantial contributions by Richard Alsop who interviewed John Jewitt in Middletown for further details. Jewitt was one of two survivors after the attack on his ship in Nootka Sound. He was enslaved by the chief Maquina and spent three years in captivity until finally rescued. Includes a one-page vocabulary of Nootkian words. Howes A-189, Sabin 36123, Streeter sale 3663. 12mo (172 x 105mm). Engraved frontispiece with partial handcoloring (frontispiece bound tightly affecting caption; scattered small tears from margins, some soiling to prelims, pale browning).
