Venice: Octavianus Scotus, 1483. Mezzo-median 2 o (260 x 180 mm). Collation : A 6 \Kc\k 2 a 8 b-y j z 3-22 8. 359 leaves (of 360; without a1 blank). 58 lines and head-line, double column. Gothic types 9:130 (head-lines and first lines of sections), 10:73 (text). Initial spaces. (Small adhesion on c1 affecting a few letters, some marginal worming, old marginal repairs in quire d, some pale marginal dampstaining.) 18th-century transparent vellum over printer's waste (small loss to spine, repair to foot of spine). Provenance : a few leaves with marginalia in an early hand; "C.G." (ink stamp on a2); Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Dawson's Bookshop, Los Angeles, 1 August 1941); donated to SMS 1941. Johannes Capreolus's defense of St. Thomas's teachings did much to revive the authority of Thomism against the attacks of Henry of Ghent, Duns Scotus, Durandus of St.-Pourçain and William of Ockham. A member of the Dominican order at Rodex, Capreolus lectured in Paris from 1407 on the Sentences and was later Regent of Studies at Toulouse. BMC V, 278 (vol. II only); BSB-Ink.
