A very rare and early silver pre-balance spring verge watch, the case in form of a seeded rose Signed John Drake, Fleet Streete Fecit, circa 1640 Gilt-finished verge movement, chain fusée, finely chased, engraved and pierced floral decorated balance cock and foot, steel two-armed pre-hairspring balance wheel, worm set-up, silver regulation dial, silver dial with engraved and blacked Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys half-hour divisions, single blued steel hand, centred by a chased and engraved floral Tudor rose, outer chased and engraved floral decorated border, the chased case in form of a seeded rose, polished floral and foliage decoration in high relief, the reverse centred by a Tudor rose, seven piece hinged bezel with four overlapping extensions holding the crystal, seven piece hinge, swivel pendant, movement signed 33 mm. diam.
