(unframed)FootnotesProvenance With Lemon Street Gallery, Truro, 2006, where acquired by the present owner Private Collection, U.K. This work is drawn out in Hoyland's notebooks, and below it he writes 'Denis Bowen unsung hero' referencing the South African artist, gallery director and promoter of abstract art in Britain, and the title is likely a reference to Bowen's work which often featured moons and skyscapes with spheres. Hoyland painted other tributes to artists and friends, such as Souvenir for Patrick, (his friend Patrick Caulfield , Elegy for Terry (friend Terry Frost , Night Sky (for Vincent Van Gogh and Master Weaver, Homage to Bryan Robertson. The Hoyland Estate are currently preparing the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the Artist's work and would like to hear from owners of any work by the Artist so that these can be included in this comprehensive catalogue.
