The lot is accompanied by a copy of the limited edition leather-bound book in a slip case, The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, illustrated by John Steuart Curry (New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1944), signed by the illustrator and numbered 769 (edition of 1,000). The finished drawing, which varies slightly from these sketches, is published between pages 46 and 47, and is captioned "The regiment was like a firework ignited."
