Beschreibung:

Jones Live-Map Meter, by Jones Live-Map Meter Co., Broadway & 76 St., New York, No. 215, brass dial with glazed cover and central internally-rotated turntable which holds a series of interchangeable 8-inch dia. discs compiled by The Touring Club of America, overall dia. 9 in., and twenty discs, in original leather wallet. Note: An early equivalent of an automobile satellite navigation, the Live-Map was invented in 1909 by J.W. Jones, and copyrighted the following year. The brass dial connected to a car's odometer, which rotated the paper disc on its spindle as the journey progressed. Directions were printed on the disc like spokes on a wheel, and mileage (to 100 miles) was printed around the perimeter. Charted journeys included Chicago to Clinton, Iowa, Boston to South Bend, and Erie to Cleveland. Longer journeys used double-sided discs, and the type of road surface would also be listed for the driver.
