Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) Lady's Concordia Ball Dance Card 1909 for Wiener Werkstatte, gilt brass, marbled paper, leather, cord, with raised stamp 'WIENER WERKSTATTE' on the interior of the front and back covers, together with pencil height 5 5/8in (14.2cm); width 4 1/2in (11.4cm); depth 1/4in (.6cm) Fußnoten Provenance 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design, Sotheby's, Amsterdam, November 30, 2004 Similar examples are also in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Harvard Art Museum. The first Concordia Ball was held in Vienna in 1863 to mark the establishment of the journalists and writers association 'Concordia' which had been created in 1859. The ball was an important social event in Viennese society and continues into the present day.
