Kelmscott Press.- Ellis (F.S.) [Sale Catalogue] Catalogue of a small but valuable collection of Choice Books and Autographs, ruled in red, prices and buyers' names in ink throughout, original wrappers bound in, contemporary cloth, Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, 1901 § Mackail (J.W.) The Life of William Morris 2 vol., plates, original cloth, 1899, 8vo (3) ⁂ Frederick Startridge Ellis (1830-1901) was a bookseller and publisher, with a wide circle of literary friends, especially William Morris and his circle. He edited many of the Kelmscott Press medieval texts, including the Chaucer, and oversaw several others through the press. This catalogue includes "an almost complete set of the Kelmscott Press Publications", of which the Chaucer on vellum (lot 94, £570 to Quaritch) and the following lot, a group of 87 original ink drawings of Edward Burne Jones for the same book (£800 also to Quaritch) are highlights.
