With a fine blue ink signature. Paperclip mark, otherwise in very fine condition. With original typed envelope. "OUR STRUGGLE IS OFTEN DIFFICULT..." A brief but thoughtful response to a supporter, penned at a critical point in the Civil Rights movement; in April, King had led the Birmingham protests against segregation, touching off violent resistance. "Your encouraging words are of inestimable value in the continuance of our humble efforts. Our struggle is often difficult and the moments are often frustrating, but we gain new courage to carry on when we realize that persons of good will, such as you, are supporting us in the background.
