Excellent Kingston, Massachusetts Queen Anne walnut high chest, ca. 1765, the bonnet top with carved shell and plaque, inscribed Susan Holmes 1779 Kingston Mass., 85 1/2" h., 40 1/4" w. Illustrated in Jobe, Sullivan & O'Brien Harbor & Home Furniture of Southern Massachusetts, plate 83.1 It is described as "Best" and likely to have been made for Susan's parents, Melatiah and Elizabeth or for her husband Benjamin Delano's family. Provenance: The Collection of Dic and Donnie Catzen. Condition:Overall very good condition. Finials, brasses, and drops are all original. Patches to two knee returns. Locks added to lower drawer of upper section and bottom lower drawer of lower section.
