The Daily Mail Publishing Co., 1899. a folded pamphlet, first edition, 4to, (320 x 250mm), printed in green with a portrait of Kipling to upper cover, facsimile text of the poem on 2 pages, full-page illustration by R. Caton Woodville 4pp., with a duplicate copy. Kipling's patriotic poem was commissioned as part of an appeal by the British newspaper to raise money for soldiers fighting in the Second Boer War and their families. The Absent-Minded Beggar Fund was the first such charitable effort for a war, referred to as the origin of the welfare state, it raised a total of more than £250,000.(Qty. 3) Condition Report: 1.
