Typed letter signed from Arthur Rubinstein to Alfred A. Knopf, with his retained copy of an earlier letter.
1) [N.p:] 3 February 1977. 1 page. Typed letter signed "Arthur" to "Dear Alfred" on Arthur Rubinstein's staionery. A warm and gracious note, Rubinstein credits Knopf for his inspiration to write. "Now you have made me into one of the great American writers of all times, and I shall gladly share the glory with a Sinclair Lewis, Faulkner, and Hemingway, to speak only of the minor ones." 2) [N.p:] 24 January 1977. 2 pages. Retained carbon copy of a typed letter to "Dear Arthur" from "Yours devotely, Alfred A. Knopf". A letter congratulating Rubinstein on reaching his 90th birthday and praising his talents as a pianist. " As soon as I discovered how Hulda Lashanka always had such good seats at your recitals I left my standing order with Hurok for four for everyone of them and I dont't believe Blanche and later Helen and I missed any unless, which was not often, we were away from the country. "
